Cat's Musings

Halloween Reading

Good morning, afternoon, or whenever it is you are reading this,

One of the first stories I remember ever reading with my mother was the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It came in this rugged cardboard book, made up of stills from the cartoon adaptation. Said cartoon adaptation played constantly on the old VCR we had. My mother nurtured my interest in Halloween.

She loved anything paranormal. She watched horror movies every night. She would tell me of her days as a witch when she lived in New Iberia, Louisiana, where she fought off the forces of evil with Catholic magic. She had an... interesting perception of reality.

All of this is to say that I have always been a Halloween person.

Every October, I set out my Halloween decorations, dive into pumpkin and apple flavors, and immerse myself in the dance macabre of the season. Every year, I read two to three spooky novels throughout the month. Over the next few days, I will discuss and review (sans spoilers) my selections for this month. I typically aim toward stories about hauntings.

Spooky season is almost over. I want to reminisce a little before it returns to the grave.

Hope you find something worthwhile.
