Why I'm Writing Deep in the Heart of Texas
Good morning, afternoon, or whenever it is that you read this.
My project for this Writing Month, Deep in the Heart of Texas, is an idea that's been sitting in my head a while. This year I've been really into social commentary and resistance fiction. However last year my wife introduced me to romance books, which I took to like a duck to water.
I wanted to write a romantic story. But, I also had a lot of political commentary I wanted to do something with besides or get depressed. I tried to write a few failed attempts at a romance. I also tried a few failed attempts at my great social commentary writing project. All of these failed even if I found the small parts I managed to write enjoyable to produce.
The logical conclusion, to give me proper incentive to finish the project for Writing Month, was to marry the two ideas.
Thus Deep in the Heart of Texas was born! It is the story of Claire and Griffon, a pair of teachers in rural Texas who find love amidst the struggle of being a teacher in the deep south. I have a lot of words to say about public education, a topic I am deeply passionate about.
Maybe I'll eventually detail some character profiles on this blog.
Thanks for reading.
